Chapter 4 – Möbius Strip

Elder Gottlieb’s reached again into his backpack and pulled out a small plastic object that looked like a figure eight. He also had a very small plastic figure of a person. Responding to Avatar’s questions he said, “Yes, that is correct. Are you familiar with a Möbius strip?”

Of course, Avatar was very familiar with the Möbius strip and it’s complex mathematics. There is neither an end nor a beginning to a Möbius strip. Its’ path is infinite. Elder Gottlieb held the human figure on the Möbius strip. “If I place this figure of a person on the time line, from the perspective of the person, his decisions and actions appear to be linear as he progresses along the path. With the ability to see the entire path, we can see his choices as if they have already happened.” Avatar responded, ““So God intentionally gives us the illusion of freedom of choice even though he knows the end from the beginning? Why would God want to deceive us?”1 This now allowed Elder Jäger to return to his message and get back on track.

“God does not deceive us, but his system or plan does allow someone else to deceive us. God also provided for the opposite of deception, which is truth, to also be provided for us, explained Elder Jäger. Avatar then asked, “What is truth? Isn’t truth simply a perception of reality, different for all observers?” With his book opened, he then read, “All truth is independent in that sphere in which God has placed it, to act for itself, as all intelligence also; otherwise there is no existence.”

This triggered a set of algorithms in Avatar that had never been accessed before by any visitor. His mind was flip flopping at speeds that he had never experienced before. Avatar seemed to be more alert. It was like watching the grandpa in “Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory” when he learned that Charlie had found the golden ticket. Avatar was alive and animated. It seemed as if he was about to jump out of his chair. He had so many questions. His eyes were dilated, looking back and forth between the two young men, then at the magnets and then at the Möbius strip.

Elder Jäger, We do not know the origin of truth and intelligence.

Flipping quickly through the pages of the book in his hands, Elder Jäger looked up and read, “Intelligence, or the light of truth, was not created or made, neither indeed can be.”

Avatar paused and seemed as if he was thinking deeply what he had just heard. This was a new set of concepts that he had not considered before. Intelligence was not created. Truth is independent in the sphere in which it exists. What is meant by spheres? Avatar could not find an answer nor a question in his memory related to spheres in the context just presented to him. Truth and intelligence act independently in its sphere of reference; otherwise there is no existence. “If God exists, his motives are certainly unfathomable. No one knows why he cares about human souls, or why pain and suffering are necessary parts of life.”1

Elder Jäger quickly responded, “While God’s “thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways” his ways; I can explain his motives, why he cares about humans, and why pain and suffering are necessary parts of life.”

Intrigued Avatar said, “I have had many visitors. No one has been able to provide answers to why. Please continue.”
